Sometimes, off-road parking isn’t enough to really ensure the security of your car, and the best automated gates Buckinghamshire has to offer are the only answer. If you’ve got a high value car, there’s a good chance you have ‘keyless’ technology, however, the security of this technology has often been called into question.

For example, take a look at this video, reported by AOL, showing how thieves steal a Mercedes from a drive away using ‘relays’ to gain access to the car.

The footage, captured on CCTV by a resident in Solihull in the West Midlands, shows two thieves gaining access to the £30,000 C-Class Mercedes in just 30 seconds. The first device intercepts the signal from the owner’s key – even from inside the house, while the second device relays it to the car, allowing it to not only be unlocked, but also started and driven away.

Mark Silvester from West Midlands Police’s crime reduction team told the Coventry Telegraph: “To protect against this type of theft, owners can use an additional tested and Thatcham-approved steering lock to cover the entire steering wheel.” You can also use a car tracking system, as well as installing more security around your driveway, including gates, providing another obstacle to thieves in entering the property as well as stealing the car.

This type of crime is on the rise thanks to the growth in keyless ignition cars, as those vehicles with manual ignitions cannot be stolen in this way.

Research from the Sun in 2017 found that over 30 makes of cars could be stolen through this method. Admiral Insurance suggest keeping your ket as far from the door as possible, as well as possibly keeping it in a metal box overnight, which might interfere with signals.
